Plastic surgeons and artists know that full, soft, sexy lips are a very feminine characteristic. The lips, along with the eyes and cheeks, are facial features that should draw attention when looking at a woman’s face. Lips that are desirable accentuate this feminine beauty. Lips that are too full, however, draw too much attention and appear unnatural.
How do we make female lips more beautiful? We use “lipstick in a syringe” as the most popular method. The “lipstick” is a facial filler (ex. Restylane®, Juvederm®, Belotero®, etc) which is injected into the lips in the office via local anesthesia. These fillers add volume to the lips and provide results that last for several months.

Lip injection patients in our Washington DC practice obtain natural lips for a few reasons. One reason is that we’re generally conservative. Typically 1-2 syringes of facial fillers (sometimes even less) is sufficient to create more attractive lips. More volume can always be injected, if desired, but often not in one treatment session. Second, we’re often not filling individual wrinkles per se. We’re creating a global volume and shape improvement in the upper and lower lips, including sometimes the area around the lips.
Who is a candidate for “lipstick in a syringe”? Almost every woman can improve her own inherent feminine beauty with a subtle office injection with facial fillers. Even a little treatment can make a positive difference.
