Dermal filler used to treat temporal hollows in a younger woman

Cosmetic facial fillers, such as Restylane® and Juvederm®, are often only considered by patients to help improve wrinkles. Many patients go their plastic surgeon’s office thinking of only injecting the lines around the mouth. While the lines around the lips and mouth are good places for rejuvenation, it is not the only area for improvement with facial fillers. When consulting with a patient for cosmetic surgery, plastic surgeons don’t just focus on one area in isolation, but rather evaluate the entire face and neck as a whole. Plastic surgeons want patients to look themselves, but better. As a result, many plastic surgeons may use fillers to help sculpt the face and not merely improve wrinkles.

This patient has been receiving Botox® Cosmetic for many years to to improve the wrinkles in-between and around the eyes and forehead for years. Dr. Chaboki suggested adding filler to her cosmetic treatment plan. Pre-filler examination demonstrates hollowing in the temple region or side of the head (hair covers hollowing on other side). This hollowing can occur naturally from aging due fat loss from the area. Temporal hollowing can make one appear older.

Treatment involves adding volume to the area. She received Juvederm® injections into the temple area to improve her appearance. After photograph shows a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Fat injection is another option to improve temporal hollowing.
