Upper eyelid surgery to open the ocular area in a younger woman of Asian descent

Asian eyelid surgery has two main approaches: suture technique and incision technique. There isn't a "best" eyelid surgery approach. The decision is mutually determined by patient and plastic surgeon, based on factors such as eyelid anatomy and recovery time.

The suture technique for Asian eyelid surgery creates a double eyelid without an external incision. Benefits of this approach include a faster recovery and less swelling. Some downsides are that it tends to relapse and not be permanent, and few patients are appropriate candidates.

The incision technique creates a incision hidden along the upper eyelid. A conservative amount of skin and fat is removed with this technique to upper eyelid surgery. The main benefit of incision technique is that it creates a more stable, long-term crease. In addition, the eyes tend to appear more open since skin is removed. Potential downsides include more scarring and longer swling period.

This patient was referred to Dr. Chaboki for his expertise in facial cosmetic surgery. An incision technique was performed in the office via local anesthesia. The patient was fully awake and comfortable during this brief procedure. The eyelids are now naturally more open.
