Gender Confirming Facial Plastic Surgery
Gender confirming facial plastic surgery, also called gender affirming plastic surgery, helps you align your outward appearance with your gender identity in a way that feels authentic, confident, and “you.” At Potomac Plastic Surgery, double board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Houtan Chaboki customizes every plan to support your goals with compassionate, individualized care.
What Is Facial Feminization?
Facial feminization, sometimes called transgender facial surgery, is a combination of procedures designed to make your facial features appear more feminine. For many patients, aligning their features may help relieve gender dysphoria and reduce misgendering in daily life.
Facial feminization is highly personalized. Some patients choose nonsurgical options; others benefit from one or multiple surgical procedures. Feminization may be appropriate for transgender women, nonbinary individuals, and cisgender women. Many patients feel empowered and more comfortable in their own skin after surgery.
Procedures Commonly Included in Facial Feminization
Your plan will be tailored to your features and priorities. Options may include:
- Rhinoplasty
- Cheek augmentation
- Lip lift and augmentation
- Brow lift
- Eyelid surgery
- Midface lift
- Facelift
- Neck lift
- Fat transfer
- Earlobe reduction (otoplasty)
- Chin reduction (genioplasty) and jaw contouring
- Brow bone reduction and forehead contouring
- Hairline lowering
- Tracheal shave (chondrolaryngoplasty)
Not everyone needs every procedure. Dr. Chaboki will guide you through the choices that best match your anatomy and goals.
Can Cisgender Women Get Facial Feminization?
Yes. Facial feminization surgery is not limited to transgender women. Cisgender women often choose procedures to enhance feminine facial characteristics, such as fuller cheeks and lips.
What Is Facial Masculinization?
Hormone therapy with testosterone may not always create the facial changes you want. Depending on your baseline features, facial masculinization surgery can complement testosterone therapy to help your face look more masculine and aligned with your identity.
Who Might Consider Masculinization Surgery?
Masculinization procedures reshape softer or more feminine features to appear stronger and more traditionally masculine. Patients who consider these procedures and plastic surgery for men include:
- Transgender men (female-to-male) seeking facial features that align with their gender identity
- Cisgender men (assigned male at birth) who want a more chiseled look—for example, strengthening a weak chin or jawline
During your consultation, you and Dr. Chaboki will select the procedures that fit your goals and facial proportions.
Surgery Requirements
Dr. Chaboki follows the WPATH Standards of Care. To move forward with gender-affirming surgery, patients will need:
- 1 year minimum in current gender

- Primary care provider
- Patients must be 19 or older
Dr. Chaboki’s team is happy to provide recommendations to help make your stay smooth and comfortable for those traveling for surgery
Insurance
Plastic surgery encompasses a wide spectrum of medical interventions, ranging from reconstructive procedures that address medical conditions to cosmetic procedures aimed at aesthetic enhancement. Should your procedure be deemed medically necessary, it’s possible that a portion of the costs could be covered by your health insurance plan. We encourage you to directly contact your insurance provider to inquire about coverage for your specific procedure, as benefit eligibility varies significantly among patients. Ultimately, patients are responsible for all associated fees.
At Potomac Plastic Surgery, both our practice and physicians operate as out-of-network providers for reconstructive services, and all billing will be processed accordingly. We have also chosen to opt out of the Medicare and Medicaid programs, meaning that neither patients nor our physicians can submit claims to Medicare or Medicaid for services rendered here.
While patients always retain the freedom to choose their preferred physician, many insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits. This allows patients who select an out-of-network provider like us to potentially utilize their existing health insurance benefits to help cover reconstructive services such as septoplasty, sinus surgery, and breast reconstruction at Potomac Plastic Surgery.
Why Choose Potomac Plastic Surgery?
Dr. Chaboki is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon recognized for achieving natural-looking results and providing compassionate, individualized care. You’ll receive a thoughtful evaluation, a plan tailored to your anatomy and identity, and attentive care before and after surgery.
