Breathing easily through the nose can be a challenge for those with a deviated septum, a sheet of cartilage and bone the separates the nasal cavity into a right and left side. The nasal septum can deviate to various degrees and either to the right, left, or both directions. While many patients may not realize they have a deviated nasal septum, those affected by a deviated septum commonly have symptoms of snoring, congestion, or mouth-breathing.

This Washington DC professional was aware of her deviated septum for several years and consulted with other specialists for treatment options. She had a severe physical blockage that did not improve significantly with allergy medication. From a nasal injury as a child, she also developed a bump and a wide bridge with excess bone. She consulted with rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Chaboki to review surgical options. Without any external incisions, she underwent a closed rhinoplasty and septoplasty. The nose is now more balanced with her face. The rhinoplasty also has "opened" the face by drawing more attention to the eyes. Her nasal breathing has greatly improved by combining the septoplasty with the external rhinoplasty procedure.
