The tip of the nose is made of primarily of skin and cartilage. Skin thickness plays an important role, as patients with thicker skin tend have a droopy tip. The size and shape of the nasal cartilage are additional factors contributing to the appearance of the tip of the nose. A droopy tip is one of the most common reasons Washington and Maryland area patients seek rhinoplasty, cosmetic surgery of the nose.

A droopy tip usually requires some cartilage reshaping to create tip definition. This Washington area woman disliked her droopy tip, which was exaggerated when she smiled. In addition, she had chronic nasal congestion from a deviated septum due to multiple sports injuries. Her fear was an "operated look" and wanted conservative changes to narrow and improve the tip. Consultation with rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Chaboki, allowed her to visualize potential changes with her nose via computer simulation. She underwent closed rhinoplasty in combination with septoplasty and turbinate reduction. Her own septal cartilage was used to reshape the tip. Her tip is no longer droopy, while still maintaining a natural result. She has her own nose but better, as she always wanted.
