Dr. Chaboki Discusses Increase in Male Facial Plastic Surgery

Entitled "Sharp Increase in Men Going Under the Knife," an April 2011 article in DemoDirt (a demographic trends magazine) contained an interview with Dr. Houtan Chaboki about his views on the rise in male plastic surgeries from 2009 to 2010. For example, the number of male facelifts doubled according to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). At his Washington, DC-based facial plastic surgery practice, Dr. Chaboki says that he has experienced a related increase in men opting for cosmetic surgery procedures.

Although rhinoplasty is most common, according to Dr. Chaboki, facelift surgery at his Washington, DC practice is the fastest growing procedure. "More men seeking plastic surgery want to appear younger and compete in the workplace," he says in the article. "Some working men who actually feel full of energy have the perception that others at work may see them as older, less adaptable to change in a fast-moving economy."

Rather than choosing a facelift based only on their appearance, men may want the procedure to improve their career options and futures, according to Dr. Chaboki. "These professional men seek plastic surgery not necessarily to improve their looks, but rather to portray a more youthful vigor, along with their maturity and experience," he explains.
