A Liquid Lift with Fat and Filler for Facial Volume Loss

Before and after a liquid facelift by Dr. Chaboki. Also known as a nonsurgical lift, aesthetic treatments with fat transfer and/or facial fillers can be used to enhance one’s appearance for a refreshed look.

Refreshed, full of energy, vibrant.

Those who visit a plastic surgeon want to look their best. While facelift surgery can be required to improve one’s appearance, especially if you have loose skin, a liquid facelift with fat or filler plays a significant role in facial rejuvenation without surgery

What is a Liquid Lift?

A liquid facelift is a nonsurgical treatment with injections to rejuvenate the face. Injections can fill hollow cheeks, reduce wrinkles, improve dark circles, and augment lips. Certain liquid facelift injections have also been reported to possibly stimulate your own body to rejuvenate the skin itself, alternatively known as “stem cell facelift”.

A liquid facelift does not replace plastic surgery, but rather an option to consider for those who are not candidates for surgery. A liquid facelift can treat multiple areas, including the lower eyelid, midface, cheeks, and lips.

Liquid facelift procedures may not be first option for certain regions or conditions, for example to treat a double chin or a sagging neck. Liquid facelifts do not improve tissue laxity or loose skin. We reviewed surgical facelifts for skin laxity in a previous blog post.

What is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is essentially taking fat from one area of the body and transferring to another area. Plastic surgeons often will take fat from the hips and abdomen with liposuction, then inject into the desired areas.

Fat transfer may also be referred to as facial fat injection. The entire fat transfer procedure itself usually takes less than hour for facial rejuvenation. Fat transfer procedures fall under the general term of liquid facelift.

What are Facial Fillers?

Facial fillers are soft gels that are injected to provide temporary improvement in an area. Many facial filler brands are available to a cosmetic surgeon to rejuvenate the face. Most facial fillers are made with the material hyaluronic acid. Restylane®, Juvederm®, and Belotero® are examples of hyaluronic acid fillers.

Downtime with bruising and swelling is typically minimal after facial filler injection. Results with facial fillers are immediate and very long-lasting, but not necessarily permanent.

Facial Volume Loss can be treated with Fat or Facial Fillers

A liquid lift with fat or fillers can be performed in a variety of areas. Volume loss is a common complaint of plastic surgery patients. Hollowed areas of the face with shadows are present for a variety of reasons; it can be present at a young age, occur naturally with age or sun damage, or develop from certain medical conditions. Below are some example areas that are typically more prone to volume loss and hollowing:

  • cheeks
  • lips
  • smile lines
  • lower eyelid area
  • temple
  • brow

Not all areas must be treated with fat or filler in all patients. Plastic surgeons will evaluate a patient and determine what regions are most volume deficient and require enhancement. Some patients prefer to limit volumization to the cheeks for augmentation, while others want multiple areas treated at the same time. Treatment areas are mutually determined by both the patient and plastic surgeon.

Have you considered a refresh? Feel that you’re looking tired or low energy? Consider a nonsurgical lift with fat transfer and facial fillers to enhance your appearance.
